TNW_AwardWinner.jpgThe Newspaper Works website has won an international website design award at the Interactive Media Awards.

The site was designed by Sydney-based firm, Tectonic, and launched late last year. Tectonic are also the designers of the CB Blogs and Bestads website, as well as the CB and Bestads apps.

Tectonic’s design won the ‘Best in Class’ award in the ‘Association website’ category at the Interactive Media Awards announced by the New York-based Interactive Media Council.

Says Richard de Nys, founder and director, Tectonic: “Rebuilding The Newspaper Works’ website was a great opportunity, particularly considering it was such a pivotal time for the organisation and the broader newspaper industry.

“The brief called for ‘an unexpected reminder of the power of newspapers, their role in Australian and global media, as well as broader society’. With that in mind, the design places first-class photo-journalism as the hero of the homepage and it’s a persistent and stand-out reminder of the power of professional news content.”

The Newspaper Works also today announced a partnership with global digital distribution and publishing company PressReader to launch The Newspaper Works app for iOS and Android devices.

PressReader will host the app, which has been developed to publish the digital editions of The Newspaper Works’ publications, The Bulletin, quarterly The Works and special industry magazines, such as Infographic Annual, for mobiles and tablets.

PressReader distributes content for more than 4,000 publishing partners in around 100 countries, including several newspaper and magazine publishers in Australia and New Zealand.

Says Mark Hollands, CEO, The Newspaper Works: “Publishing and communication is at the heart of this organisation. We are delighted with the ‘Best in Class’ recognition of Tectonic’s design of our website at this year’s Interactive Media Awards, and with our partnership with PressReader to now offer our content in apps on both iOS and Android platforms.”

The Newspaper Works app can be downloaded free in the iTunes Store, Google Play or Windows Store under ‘The Newspaper Works’. The desktop site linked to the app is live and features an archive of The Newspaper Works’ publications from the past year. Readers can also subscribe to The Newspaper Works’ PressReader site or app to have publications auto-sent when they are published.
