William Shatner stars in My Republic’s new spot via Energi Advertising Auckland and Kontent

WSHAT.jpgEnergi Advertising Auckland and Kontent Productions have teamed up to create a brand campaign for new players in the New Zealand fibre broadband market, My Republic.

After some brainstorming, William Shatner was suggested, tracked down, approached and snared. Shatner was delighted to be involved. Everyone agreed he seemed a great fit – part man of the future (Captain Kirk), part elder statesman (Denny Crane) – but mainly a much loved character actor. My Republic is offering Ultra fast fast fibre broadband services especially suitable to streaming TV shows and films so there was a perfect synergy there.

Creative director Jason Anderson, head of strategy Simon Kozak and Kontent director Simon Mark-Brown worked closely together on the scripts and let Shatner have his invaluable input on the day. The ad briefly hints at My Republic’s competitors in a light-hearted way but the message is serious – no limits, no speed reductions at peak time – truly unlimited fast, fibre broadband. The TV campaign launched a week ago and the cinema campaign in a couple of weeks.

Says Mark-Brown: “Every take of Bill’s was different and useable. What a master. What an honour.”
