Connecting Up is a not-for-profit that works to empower other not-for-profit organisations through technology, and have taken on the challenge of bringing a successful US social movement to Australia.

#GivingTuesday marks the start of the giving season, inviting people to give back in the form of a donation to charity, helping out the local community, or simply doing something nice for someone else.

Says Kylie O’Callaghan, fundraising and marketing manager for the Central Domestic Violence Service: “#GivingTuesday is a great initiative as it gives us an opportunity to highlight the essential services we provide to women and children. It also provides a platform for us to engage the community and ask them to think about the different ways that they can also support our client group. Christmas is a particularly tough time for the women and children who access our service and an important time for us to think about those less fortunate.”

Nucleus director Gavin Benda says they are proud to be working with Connecting Up on an initiative that promotes such acts of kindness.

Says Benda: “The Nucleus team is excited to be contributing to this incredible movement. The simplicity of the idea means it is accessible to everyone. The day is about promoting a ‘giving’ culture within our community and showcasing the positive effects that non-for-profits are having on the lives of those most in need.”

#GivingTuesday originated in the US, and since being launched through Connecting Up in Australia, Nucleus has worked with them to adapt it for the local market.

Says Benda: “We have been happy to support Connecting Up with the donation of creative strategy, design and production time to launch a new website and support materials. In our eyes, #GivingTuesday 2014 is the first step to something greater, and we are excited to work with Connecting Up to see where we can take the movement in the future.”

Connecting Up will head up a local launch of #GivingTuesday in Rundle Mall on 2nd December in the hope that this activation will encourage the community to give back.
