Window.jpgThis week Engine Group teamed up with 16 Brisbane artists to launch Room; a new creative collaboration space, on ground floor in their new office in Spring Hill.

Everything was delightful on level one as the Engine team happily settled in to its new office. The problem was downstairs. Facing one of Brisbane’s busiest streets there was a space with empty walls and a big window.

1.jpgLike all problems, this was also an opportunity. Engine painted it black and called it Room. The Engine team dedicated the space to creative collaboration. The window is Engine’s invitation to all eyes that pass 40 Leichhardt Street.

Room is a black, blank canvas.  It’s three walls and a window.  It is a place to experiment, collaborate and be Alex.jpginspired.

The first exhibition to launch Room is called New Beginnings. 16 Brisbane photographers were chosen to exhibit their work and all pieces are currently being auctioned with funds going to charities chosen by the artists.

Says Tim Weger, managing director, Engine Group “The event was a great Caz.jpgsuccess and we loved showcasing the amazing creative talent we have here in Brisbane. Room has been designed as a collaborative space and we will continue to share the space with the creative industry, students and our peers.”

Says Kory McAvoy, co-creative director, Engine Group: “We collaborate with the best photographers all Cheers.jpgthe time to deliver solutions for our clients. It got us thinking it would be amazing to give a bunch of amazing artists an open brief without any of our normal direction or guidelines.

“We are really inspired by the different ways creatives think and solve problems, and this idea is an opportunity to get into some of their heads and stick what we Damien.jpgfound onto our walls for everyone to see. The theme is “New Beginnings” – and the work is outstanding.”

Merrin McCormick, co-creative director, Engine Group said the concept for Room was based on the physical room and the room to grow, room to share and in this case room to give.

Says McCormick: “In addition to the artists Kathleen_Nicole.jpgdonating their time to be part of the exhibition all artworks will be sold through an online silent auction for charity. Each artist has chosen a charity so it is great to be supporting a cause.
