Dimitiri.jpgMoth Projects has announced the signing of director Dimitri Basil.

Says Jonathan Samway, partner/EP, Moth Projects: “Dimitri’s work is best described within a mirage of immaculate stylised imagery and character. He pays homage to the classic, with  an energy that celebrates the absurd. His signing to Moth further demonstrates our commitment to represent unique storytellers.”

Basil’s film “Tangerine” was the winner in Roman Coppola’s “Dazed” film competition last month.

Says Basil: “We had been strung-out and staring at computer screens for two weeks, so as soon as we saw (Roman Coppola’s) brief we were ready to bolt outside and start shooting. We were actually so excited to get started with the project that we found ourselves on the road during a desert heat wave roasting in a non air conditioned oven of a truck.”

Basil’s pervious work includes the music video for Vance Joy’s international hit Riptide that has now exceeded 32 million Youtube views. His music video for Flight Facilties’ Foreign Language, which replicates a late 1970’s TV series title sequence was nominated at the UK Music Video Awards for Best Dance Video. It was also nominated at the Triple J Awards and shortlisted at the Vimeo Awards for Best Music Video.

Says Jeff Darling, partner/director, Moth Films: “Dimitri is truly an original talent. Very rarely do you see someone emerge so early in their career with such a unique signature. I’m a big fan and am always excited for the next instalment.”
