LA-based Aussie agency Mistress creates inspiring video to launch VH1 show ‘Hindsight’
US Cable network VH1, via LA-based Aussie creative agency Mistress, has released an original video about a real-life New Yorker who is given a second chance to go back and reconnect romantically with a brief encounter in the big city.
The video, which is on the VH1 YouTube channel, promotes the January 7 premiere of Hindsight, VH1’s original, new series about what happens when a woman is given a chance to go back in time and change her life, starting on the eve of her first wedding in 1995.
The branded content video, ‘Missed Connections’, following the premise of the show, taps into a human universal truth posing the question: “if you had a chance to do it all over again, would you choose to do it differently?” To illustrate, VH1 reached out to a real-life New Yorker named Daniela who posted a “missed connection” message online after an encounter with a young man in a Brooklyn laundromat. VH1 created an opportunity for Daniela to go back and “do it differently” in a surprising and unforgettable way. Daniela’s story is a touching tale about one of thousands of missed connections that occur in the big city, but in this case, she was given the chance to go back and do it all over again and something very rare and special happened.
“At VH1 we are always trying to do things differently,” said VH1’s Caralene Robinson, SVP Marketing & Creative. “To celebrate our new scripted series Hindsight, we are bringing to life a universal insight about second chances and giving someone a real-life opportunity to do things differently. In Hindsight our lead character Becca is given a chance to go back to the 90s and do it all over again. In “Missed Connections”, we gave Daniela that second chance as well and we couldn’t be more excited for her.
This original video follows on the non-traditional promotional approach of VH1’s show Dating Naked. The viral film ‘Dancing Naked’, also created in collaboration with Mistress, was a viral success achieving over 2 million views and counting.
The video was directed by Joey Garfield, the commercial/music video director and contributor to Juxtapoz magazine who also directed the documentaries “Breath Control,” “Style Wars: Revisited” and “A Love Letter for You.”
