Australia’s largest Information Communications Technology (ICT) research organisation NICTA has launched its new WordPress site via Tectonic.

NICTA got in touch with Tectonic, who are also the designers of the CB Blogs and Bestads website, as well as the CB and Bestads apps, with the intention to use WordPress for its new site. In initial discussions, the NICTA team were interested whether it would suit its demanding needs.

Tectonic has been spruiking WordPress as a sound option for enterprise sites for a while now and it’s great validation that NICTA independently recognised this too.

Says Richard de Nys, founder and director, Tectonic: “WordPress is sometimes dismissed as a simple blog system, but it’s come a long way with big brands and enterprises loving WordPress.

“Some of the more demanding aspects of this project were integrating with NICTA’s internal systems–for example, for all of their staff to be able to use their regular network login to access the public site with appropriate permissions to manage content within their organisation division, and their personal profile pages.”

Tectonic handled design and the ground-up rebuild of the site including all integration aspects as well as setting up the hosting stack in NICTA’s own data centre. The project was managed as an Agile one.

Says Marijana Okanovic, digital manager at NICTA: “Although a little sceptical at the beginning, I was quickly converted to the agile approach taken with the NICTA website development. The team at Tectonic were fantastic in adjusting requirements throughout the project, with an end result that met our needs.”
