IDA-curious.jpgCurious has cemented its reputation as a leader in storytelling, distribution and craft with ‘Ida’ winning the ‘Best Film not in the English Language’ category at the BAFTA awards at the Royal Opera House in London.

Distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Curious Film, ‘Ida’ is an inspired Polish-Danish story about a young girl who sets out to discover the truth about her family roots.

“Choosing films is like choosing commercial directors. We’re highly selective and only work with those films and filmmakers that we genuinely love and respect,” says Peter Grasse, president at Curious, explaining the company’s knack for selecting award-winning talent. “The success of our portfolio in both commercials, content and features is testament to our ability to create and curate stories that audiences adore.”

‘Ida’ has also been nominated for two Oscars at the Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography), which take place on 22nd February in Hollywood.

Curious ventured into film distribution in 2010, and its film division is now a core part of its identity. Films distributed by Curious include: Winter’s Bone (three Oscar Nominations), Jiro Dreams of Sushi, Reality (Cannes Grand Prix Winner) War Witch (Oscar Nomination) and The Rocket (which was last year’s Australian entry to the Academy Awards).

The BAFTA and OSCAR recognition for ‘Ida’ follows Curious’ successes at the Cannes Lions and Ciclope Festival last year, where Curious was Asia Pacific Production Company of the Year.

‘Ida’ is back in theatres for a limited re-release in New Zealand and Melbourne. It is also available on iTunes in Australia and iTunes in New Zealand.

Curious will of course be throwing an Oscars Party on 23rd February to watch the winners.
