AIRBAG signs director Stephen McCallum

AIRBAG has signed director Stephen McCallum.

McCallum is fresh off a 2 year drama deployment where he was hand picked by Glendyn Ivin as DA and 2nd unit director on Gallipoli. Prior to that McCallum worked with Tony Ayres on feature film ‘Cut Snake’.  

McCallum is no newcomer to ad world however with his marriage equality spot ‘It’s Time‘ a huge viral success with over 15 million YouTube views.

Says McCallum: “It was great to step back into long form drama to hone my directing skills. With Glendyn I got the opportunity to learn from the best. His instincts for performance, storytelling and aesthetic are something I aspire to. It was a valuable experience and one that’s made me a better director.

“For me directing is all about collaboration. I love to work with the best possible people to bring a story to life and engage an audience. I’m inspired by scripts that are able to communicate an important brand message in a positive way. I have a passion for telling a story through natural performance and immersive cinematics to allow the audience to feel from the point of view of the characters on screen. I want to create connections that last with the viewer and encourage them to see from a new perspective.

McCallum graduated from AFTRS in 2011 where he won the Foxtel Exceptional Talent Award and the AFTRS European Union Travelling Scholarship. He has directed several award winning short films that have screened around the world and has multiple long form projects in development.
