image003.jpgStrand Arcade is continuing to build upon its long-standing reputation as the home of Australia’s most prestigious design talent and bespoke artisans with the release of its new Autumn/Winter 2015 campaign and Volume 5 of its cult paper 1891 via Studio Woo.

Volume 4 of 1891celebrates the generations of past and present.

Highly-renowned, US-based editor and expat Laura Brown casts her eye over the season, taking on the coveted role of 1891 curator. Having spent her teenage years shopping in Strand Arcade, Laura’s direction for the paper came from a sentimental place.

Says Brown: “I love that the Strand Arcade has become a haven for both fantastic young designers – Lover and Dion Lee – for example, and just amazing craftsmen, like Andrew McDonald. It also feels like a neighbourhood in the middle of the city.”

Cover one leads with the bewitching gaze and striking features of 90’s supermodel Emma Balfour, who represents Brown’s generation. In complete contrast, cover two stars fresh-faced actress Odessa Young, who symbolises the next generation.

Balfour’s look for AW15 focuses on beautiful textures and earthy prints from the likes of Akira, Jac + Jack and Megan Park. Young depicts an edgier approach to dressing with statement hats from Strand Hatters; structural layersimage002.jpg courtesy of The Corner Shop; and monochromatic must-haves from Skin and Threads and Scanlan Theodore.

The Strand Arcade today is a community of the treasured and the emerging, making it a special place for those who have shopped for decades and those who are creating new memories. Volume 4 of 1891 is a harmonious tribute to both the history and to the future of the Strand Arcade.
