A Big Brief Night set for Tuesday May 12 – part of 2015 Melbourne International Design Week

AGDA_Feature.jpgA Brief Night, the hands-on design event series for students, grads and aspiring designers has gone big for a special one off event at 6pm on Tuesday, May 11.

Imaginatively titled, A Big Brief Night, the concept has been expanded and the event will now take place in 8 top studios across Melbourne, Torquay and Mildura as part of Melbourne International Design Week 2015 and supported by AGDA.

The idea behind the event remains unchanged, with the intention being to bridge the gap between education and industry.

Forget ideals, here participants won’t have months, weeks or even days to research, revise and revisit their design work. There is no room for pondering, no gaps for mulling over.

Instead, participants will experience the realities of operating within the demands and deadlines of a fast-paced studio, working on the type of projects the industry might throw at them when they’re in the workplace.

Participants on the night at each of the 8 studios will be presented with the same solo design brief. The count down then starts and participants have 90 minutes to respond.

As in the real world, the brief may not be perfect, and participants will need to be on their guard for any extra curricular requirements.

During the 90 minutes, help, advice and direction will be offered by the industry professionals from the 8 studios.

When the time runs out, the designing stops. Each participant will then present their work to the rest of the group and get a chance to hear how they’ve done.

Participating studios: Alter, Canyon, Fluid, Motherbird, Saunders Design Group, Seesaw, WildHen and Yoke.
