Christen-Monge-1990.jpgA wake will be held today in Sydney for the late Christen Monge, a world-renowned creative director from the 80s through to 2010, who died of a stroke at his home in Sussex last week.

His old friend and former colleague Paul Williams, managing partner of BWM Dentsu Australia is organising a wake in his honour for anyone who knew Christen at the Tilbury Hotel in Woolloomooloo from 4.30pm today (Friday 5th June), the same day of Christen’s funeral in Sussex.

Says Williams: “He was a very special guy, loved and revered by many….and goddamm confounding to several more! A man of few words, he had a huge impact. Who knew silence could be so persuasive!!?

“What probably unites us all, is that the era he represented was full of vibrant creativity, energy, and swashbuckling courage. It was a time of our lives where we were all a lot younger, wilder, and certainly more carefree. And for many of us he was at the helm. A handsome Viking captain leading us God knows where.

CHRISTEN-MONGE-2014.jpg“Anyway….equally sadly for me I can’t make the date of his funeral in Sussex  work….and I know he’d never forgive me. In fact I can feel his steely blue eyes piercing my brain right now.

“To make partial amends we’re organizing a few Vale Sherbets at the Tilbury on the 5th June kicking off at 4.30….(the day of his funeral) …..and will try to make a celebration of it.

“All his old Sydney friends and colleagues will be there….We will want to get some speeches going, and show the video Alison, his wife, is cutting together to play at the UK party. ( thanks all to the many who are helping rustle up the archives)

“I hope you can come too….I’m sure Christen would appreciate the sentiment of being recognized. (tho’ of course he’d never tell you). That way he gets two parties in both hemispheres!!!”
