Skoda Australia talks to the ‘born curious’ in its latest national campaign via DDB Sydney
Škoda Australia is looking for those who are ‘Born Curious’ in its latest campaign developed by DDB Sydney – the agency’s first work for the brand since being appointed earlier in the year.
The campaign introduces the new Octavia Scout 4×4 into the market and Škoda Australia director, Michael Irmer, recognises the brand’s challenge, as a relatively new contender, to build awareness and consideration in the Australian market.
Says Irmer: “The opportunity for us is to do something different – to stand out in a cluttered category among larger brands with greater awareness.”
Since Roman times they have used pigs in Europe to search and discover precious and prized black truffles. The metaphor won’t be lost on a potential Škoda buyer who pride themselves on discovering brands, products and experiences, hidden gems that sit outside the mainstream.
DDB creative partner, Simon Veksner, said the agency relished the opportunity to take on the challenge presented by Škoda.
Says Veksner: “Škoda makes great cars but is looking to build awareness in Australia. Their team gave us a fantastic brief to find an ownable place in a crowded market. We found that Skoda drivers love to research everything. They’re not superficial people. So the goal here is to appeal strongly to a targeted group of people you might call independent thinkers. We think this idea will resonate well with them.”
The campaign will be featured on television, digital and social from Sunday, May 17.

Beautifully shot as always Quinny.
Is this part of the “Experience Seeker” campaign for Hahn?
Nice ad. Saw this on Sunday night during the screening of Catching Milat. Lone guy, in a forest, driving down a highway. Bad media schedule?
Just saying…
Talking animals. Never a good idea.
Pig talks. Whow.
Bound to be moral outrage with this ad given the disregard for the pig’s safety inside the vehicle.
Unrestrained, no safety belt of any kind, sends a poor message in regards to animal welfare.
But it is of course a talking pig.
A talking pig should certainly be wearing a seat belt, Norm De Plume. More than that, with such a gifted pig, it should only be eaten one delicious leg at a time.
A talking animal is nothing new. I had my own TV show in the 60’s and have recently learned to type and use the internet.
Shoot the pretty pictures any way you like – this is a talking pig. Rubbish.
Is one of those ‘things most people don’t know exist’ meant to be a talking pig?
It’s sad that so many people have never seen a talking pig. In the Mad Man days we used to see them quite regularly, and we did like them.
