MADC Presents: Whybin\TBWA Melbourne ECD Paul Reardon at Local Taphouse, St Kilda, Aug 12
MADC Presents Whybin\TBWA Melbourne ECD Paul Reardon with a rare insider’s view of the Cannes Lions judging process at The Local Taphouse, St Kilda on Wednesday, August 12.
As chair of the radio jury this year, Reardon offers a fascinating insight to the machinations of the infamous Cannes judging process, what wins and why, and most pertinently, what separates Gold from Grand Prix.
No stranger to Lions himself, Reardon has collected quite a few along the way including a Grand Prix for his famous two minute radio spot for Snickers during his time at Clemenger BBDO. Since taking the ECD reins at Whybin\TBWA Melbourne, the agency has surged up the creative rankings, picking up Asia Pacific agency of the year at New York Festivals, 10 golds at Adfest, 5 pencils at D&AD and 13 pencils at AWARD this year alone. In 2014 GAYTM’s swept all before it including the Cannes Outdoor Grand Prix.
Says Tony Prysten, MADC secretary and digital director, McCann: “The ‘MADC Presents’ events have become hugely successful and an evening with Paul promises to deliver a rare insight into the Cannes process. It’s also a great night for industry folk to come together in an informal environment. Be quick as tickets sell out very quickly.”

I get award overload – I will keep trying to do good work and if it is awarded then that is fine, but if it sells stuff then that is better.
Good on you @Love! In that case, get back to work creating frozen food ads and stop wasting time commenting on articles.
Pot – Kettle – Black
The award obsession is really becoming boring. I stand with the first comment. It seems that it’s the only thing that matters to certain agencies and it needs to stop. I’m not saying this has anything to do with Paul as he is just delivering a talk on a specific subject. But it’s becoming ridiculous again and it’s time to get back to basics and create real work that works and most importantly sells shit for our clients and not work designed to impress an Argentinian juror that couldn’t give a fuck about you, your client or the challenge that is to produce outstanding work in this country.
Thanks for your feedback.
The MADC has created these events to bring the Melbourne advertising community together in an informal environment to hear about all aspects of advertising creativity.
Previous speakers have included, Russell Howcroft, Adrian Mills, Nick Cummins, Sean Cummins, Darren Woolley & John Mescall delivering a wide range of topics including – ‘The problem with bad advertising’, ‘Celebrate the buyer’ and ‘Do your clients see you as a commodity?’
Like most creative fields, awards are part of advertising however this is the first talk MADC has facilitated specifically around this topic.
If you have suggestions for speakers and topics, please feel free to contact the MADC via their website. http://www.madc.com.au

Yes, I totally support the MADC and the fact the talks are being put on. I’m sure Reardo will do an entertaining talk and he’s not bad to look at either – but yeah, In general I’m with the AWARDS ennui crowd.
