Since the projects inception in 2013 through visionary local artist, Del Kathryn Barton, the job demanded passion and innovation for a year and a half as the design team, led by Method design director Richard Swan, poured countless hours into bringing Barton’s storybook paintings to life in motion.

filmmethod.jpgThe short film was edited by the intuitive Mark Bennett, who thoughtfully pieced the story together side by side with the design and VFX team throughout the process in its continuous evolution. While Chris Breeze, animation director, crafted the bespoke methodology, implementing the unique approach to this stylistic animation.

The jury’s statement sums up the panel of judges impressions at MIFF best with, “One simple word, an exclamation shared by all the judges, conveys the visual and storytelling wonder of this film: Wow! This beautiful animated short is a collaboration between filmmaker, visual artist, musician and an outstanding voice cast, and everyone involved is at the very top of their game. The visuals are sensuous and often breathtaking, and the score and sound are exemplary. This reinterpretation of Wilde’s dark fairytale has its own visionary potency but is also faithful to the melancholy and heart-breaking power of the original tale. Wow, just wow!”
