The Hallway and Tourism & Events Queensland win SmartFone Flick Fest’s Inspiration Award
The Hallway and Tourism & Events Queensland have been awarded the SmartFone Flick Fest’s inaugural “Inspiration Award” for their “Every Shade of Perfect” TVC for the Whitsundays.
The ad, conceived and produced by The Hallway in mid 2014, was shot on an ordinary smartphone and post-produced without any visual effects – no sky replacements, no retouching, no colour-grading – undeniable visual proof that The Whitsundays is genuinely “Every Shade of Perfect”.
Says Ali Crew, co-director and founder, SmartFone Flick Fest: “The “Every Shade of Perfect” ad serves as great inspiration to would-be smartphone film makers. It shows that when you have the right idea and creative energy, you don’t need elaborate camera or post production technology to bring it to life.”
Launching this year, the SmartFone Flick Fest is Australia’s only dedicated smartphone film festival. The festival has already attracted more than 250 entries from Australia and internationally from as far afield as the US, UK, Iran, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Ghana.
Says Angela Blake, co-founder and director, SmartFone Flick Fest: “The subjects include everything imaginable from love stories to music videos and a documentary shot by a survivor of the Himalayan earthquake.”
The festival boasts an impressive panel of judges including:
Jason van Genderen – Director of the Pocket Film Academy
Alan Nurthen – founder of the Screen Actors’ Workshop
Serhat Caradee – award-winning Writer/Director (Cedar Boys)
Sandra Alexander – Editor of film industry production ‘bible’ The Satchel
Maria Lewis – entertainment reporter and author
Anthony Montes – LA-based acting coach and film-maker
Carla “Biggzy” Bignasca – Channel 7’s The Morning Show and The Daily Edition
Pieter de Vries – Director of Photography
Caris Bizzaca – Film critic and journalist
Entries close on August 16. The festival concludes with a gala screening of the finalist and winning films and awards ceremony at Sydney’s Chauvel Cinema in Paddington. Tickets to the event are available on the festival website.
Says Simon Lee, executive creative director and partner, The Hallway: “We’re delighted to see our work recognised by the SmartFone Flick Fest. At the core of the festival is a wonderful spirit of entrepreneurial creativity, the same spirit that drives a lot of our work at The Hallway.”

Nothing super huge from the Hallway just yet, but they’ve consistently delivered a high standard of work since their inception. I’m hoping they nail something big soon, in a time when marketing is particularly dull. Surely a matter of time.
