Kirribilli House available to rent on Stayz in a cheeky campaign via Clemenger BBDO Sydney

Stayz_web_listing (1).jpgAustralian holiday rental website, Stayz via Clemenger BBDO Sydey, reached out to the new Prime Minister, Malcom ‘Malc’ Turnbull, calling on him to rent out the recently vacated Kirribilli House to the general public.

Turnbull’s recent decision to reside in his current Point Piper home leaves Kirribilli House, the traditional home of the Aussie PM, empty. A cheeky tweet was directed at the PM himself to gently persuade him to list the property on the popular website for people to rent. The tweet included a link to a pre-written listing of the property, light-heartedly speculating on the notable features of the house.

The listing positions the property as a “Stunning harbour side mansion fit for a King/PM”. It goes on to describe some pretty unbelievable features that the property may or may not boast, such as a “48 burner barbie”, “Jacuzzi (fits 12, comfortably fits 9)”, “A friendly and highly dedicated Secret Intelligence Service professional named Barry,” and even an ominous sounding, “Big red button.”

stayz_tweet (1).jpgStayz users have got into the spirit, with one reviewer named ‘Kevin’ commenting, “I stayed for a short time only and was rudely asked to leave by an incoming female guest with barely a day’s notice”. ‘Kevin’ summarised by Kevinsaying, “the property seems to have some sort of jinx.”

Says David Dunstan, marketing director, Stayz: “We pride ourselves on being able to offer thousands of unique holiday rentals, and Kirribilli House is certainly unique. We hate to see empty houses and this one’s a cracker. It’s in a prime location, big enough for the whole family and it’s empty, so why not we say? We know Malc is rather busy at the moment, but hopefully it will be available to rent soon.”

Says Paul Nagy, ECD, Clemenger BBDO Sydney: “This is a simple, topical idea guaranteed to get attention.  And it cost as little as a page listing and a single tweet. Here’s hoping Malcolm is a good sport.”
