Sam Cable: Hamburg school diary #1

| | No Comments

HAMBURG DIARIES 1 Sa (1).jpgSam Cable is a copywriting student at Miami Ad School Sydney, currently studying in Hamburg before graduating in December.

18 articles, 29 photos and 5500+ words later, I am back to continue the third and final chapter of my journey with Campaign Brief. Over the last six months, I have had the pleasure to document my experience across three continents, visiting eight countries and 12 different cities along the way. The internships have been invaluable; strengthening and widening my network to places such as San Francisco, Seoul and London. What a whirlwind it has been!

Now settled in Hamburg, I cannot wait to write about the final mad dash to graduation. This will include 10 weeks of witty haikus, the daily adventures of living in Germany, and my personal transformation from student to junior copywriter. These articles have also allowed an opportunity to foster conversations with top and emerging creatives of this generation. It has been fascinating to discover how these industry leaders craft meaningful work. I hope to share more of these conversations with you.

HAMBURG DIARIES 1b Alster (1).jpgThis journey has taught me a lot about the world, the dynamic profession of advertising, and most importantly, about myself. When I first started documenting my journey, I wrote this quote: “I have swept up the prize for being the student who smiles the most in class, the intern with the biggest sweet tooth, and the tourist who likes to ruin perfectly good craft beer by adding grenadine”. This is still 100% true, but as I commence the final chapter of my portfolio course, my goal is to enjoy drinking beer without the grenadine.

Three months of haikus.

But something even brighter:

The sun in Hamburg.
