Australian digital strategist at ntegrity, Emily Malone (left) was named the regional winner in APAC.

Biggest Social Geek is a quiz-based contest presented by Marin Software, which challenges the world’s best and brightest digital marketers to a series of questions on a variety of social advertising topics. The questions cover a range of topics, from campaign management know-how to industry knowledge of major social publishers and trends.

More than 2,300 social marketers across the globe competed in last year’s inaugural contest, which took place online earlier this year.

Malone says the thing that sets the Australian landscape apart is the quality of the online community.

Says Malone: “I am constantly impressed with the engagement I see in the Australian social media landscape. A lot of Australians band together on social media, which isn’t always the case in other countries and the conversations between brands and consumers in Australia are great to witness.

“As brands use social media to roll out campaigns or to canvas opinions, the social media community in Australia is very responsive. It’s crucial brands look to invest in social media as an important part of their strategy and business model. I’m keen to see how social media will change in the coming years and how brands and creatives will respond to trends and this shifting landscape.”

Nick Haase, CEO and co-founder of Loot!, took this years’ Grand Prize and title of North American winner, scoring 80% in just under five minutes to beat out the competition. Jason Saunders, marketing manager at uSwitch, took the title for the United Kingdom.

Although the competition has come to a close, the quiz is still available for search marketers who want to test their social smarts at http://www.biggestsocialgeek.com.
