Lavender Genus grads (1).jpgCX agency Lavender’s call for fresh talent to join the 2016 intake of its Genus Graduate Program attracted an impressive 87 applicants, with five bright and ambitious individuals joining the agency as a result.

The five graduates have a diverse background, reflecting Lavender’s expanding suite of services.

Alex Shiel, who has graduated with a bachelor of design – visual communication degree, is joining the creative department, while Sam Wakeling, who has a degree in behavioural economics, will be placed within the strategy team.

Mia Nestler (bachelor of business), Will Royle (bachelor of digital media) and Natasha Velkova (bachelor of arts – english) will finesse their skills in account service, working across Telstra, American Express and St George respectively.

Lavender chose the Genus graduates for their drive and passion to make their mark in the world of marketing and communications and they are placed in roles that suit their strengths.

By definition, a ‘Genus’ houses multiple individual species. This is exactly how Lavender sees its grads – just like everyone at Lavender with their own unique quirks and peculiarities contributing to the agency. Their unifying characteristic is a dedication to the customer.

Each graduate has been partnered with a mentor outside of their team, to guide them through everyday agency life and answer any questions that arise.

Says Tess Lavender, head of talent: “We were overwhelmed by the calibre of candidates and the creativity they showcased in their applications. During the interview process, we looked for further evidence of their customer experience smarts and fit within our business.

“Our five Genus grads are all eager, imaginative and multi-skilled and I am sure they will each make their mark on our clients, their business and their customers. The best part of my job is helping to grow people and seeing them realise their dreams.”

Lavender’s long-term commitment to growing its own talent through ongoing training and development is reflected in the fact that one third of Lavender employees have been with the agency for more than three years – far in excess of the average advertising tenure.

Like all Lavender employees, Genus Grads will have access to Lavender Master Classes, led by internal and external industry experts, as well as industry courses paid for by the agency.
