JdPwm-OJ.jpegKick-starting the New Year, the Account Planning Group (APG) will welcome Jon Alexander, director of UK-based New Citizenship Project, to Sydney on 6th January to share the thinking behind his new report: The Citizen Shift: A guide to understanding and embracing the emerging era of the Citizen.

Introducing a radical new way of looking at the world, Alexander will explain how the role of the individual in society has evolved over the last century, exploring the idea that the role of the  consumer has reached its sell-by date.

As an adman himself, Alexander will outline what this evolution might mean for the marketing communications industry, questioning also how it will look on the sunnier side of the world. The findings will be valuable to organisational strategists, anyone working in public engagement and everybody interested in using creativity to inspire and encourage participation – whether in the public, private or third sector.

Alexander founded the New Citizenship Project in 2014 as an innovation company, generating and delivering creative projects which promote the role of the Citizen, inspiring participation in society. His ultimate goal is to replace the ‘Consumer’ with the ‘Citizen’ as the main role of the individual in society.

Says Angela Morris, chair, APG: “We are thrilled to start the year with an international speaker like Jon whose focus is on challenging common perceptions and encouraging others to view the world differently. This is not one to miss.”

Alexander’s early career was spent in London advertising agencies where he developed brand strategies for organisations such as Sainsbury’s, Orange, Cadbury, Sony and Eurostar; after which he spent three years working for the National Trust before leaving to set up New Citizenship. Along the way, he gathered three Masters degrees, and has represented Britain in two sports.
