hardball_feature (1).jpgCurious Film’s dynamic directing duo, Boomshaka (aka Guy Edmonds and Matt Zeremes), have a thing. It’s not that their films are winning awards at film festivals throughout the world, although this is becoming their calling card. Nor is it their flair for comedy, although this is why they’re winning awards.

It’s that they can work behind and in front of the camera. The pair began their careers as actors. So it’s entirely in character that they play the lead roles in their newest film, Hardball. And also that Hardball has just been named as one of the sixteen finalists for Tropfest 2016 in February in Centennial Park, Sydney.

Says Boomshaka’s Edmonds: “We were up in Brisbane shooting something else and made Hardball on our day off. We wanted to make something funny and entertaining that would play well in the rock & roll film festival that is Tropfest. We’re chuffed it’s in the finals and can’t wait to see it play on Feb 14th.”

This is Hardball: “Two dads get more than they bargained for on a playdate with their kids.” It’s Boomshaka’s twelfth short film and joins a growing body of successful work that includes three features, online films and TVCs through Curious Film for brands like Ikea, Tattsbet and Birch & Waite.

Says Boomshaka’s Zeremes: “We’ve created something uniquely funny and super tight, that takes some surprising leaps in 6min. We’re pumped to have it play to Tropfest’s massive audience. It’s got lots of moments that should ignite the crowd. I think it’s a real stamp of how we, Boomshaka, approach comedy.”

The pair also played the lead roles in their comedy feature, Super Awesome!, which had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in June 2015 and is is now available on iTunes.

The film won super awesome reviews: “Can best friends Mark and Gary write, cast and rehearse a musical about marriage equality that’s set to open a major theatre festival in six short weeks? Find out in this hilarious, heartfelt Australian comedy where Superbad meets Rocky. ..” (Ritz Cinema)

And it had made its mark in Australia by August: “The awesome Simon Burke is singing the main song from the film, Man to Man, at Parliament House tonight for Australian Marriage equality! Go go go!” [Guy Edmonds & Matt Zeremes]

Says Pete Grasse, general manager, Curious: “I thought I worked hard, but these guys put me to shame. They are the most prolific, prodigious and persistent directors I know. They have the talent and motivation to make the most of every opportunity.”
