Titled ’20/20 People’, the venue in Surry House on Campbell Street is designed for freelancers and start-ups to work, network, socialise and relax in the purposely- renovated warehouse, once home to the Chinese Republic Newspaper and various rag trade businesses.

The brainchild of Nick Sammut founder of Toast Creative, a leading boutique Sydney branding agency, 20/20 People will be an inspiring membership-based platform from where creative entrepreneurs can build their dreams and access new business opportunities through collaboration with members.

Says Sammut: “Having built Toast from scratch into one of Sydney’s leading niche independent agencies, it’s been an ambition to give something back to those starting out who wish to get ahead. Our vision is to create an environment to spark innovation and for people to work together and inspire. Simply put, it’s an entrepreneurial, relaxed, flexible, co-working space exclusive to creatives.”

Set on four floors of the iconic re-established Surry House, 20/20 People will be a space for networking events, creative talks and somewhere to wow clients with a private rooftop and impeccably designed, fully spec’d out meeting rooms. And this is just the first piece of larger more exciting things to come.

Says Sammut: “It’s going to be an entrepreneur’s creative club that’s home to a cafe and tapas wine bar, 20/20 people, Toast Creative and ‘The Perch’, a rooftop space that hosts guest speakers and networking events. It will be somewhere for creatives to build their brands and become a part of a community to collaborate.”

Originally the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown before it relocated to Dixon Street supposedly due to xenophobia, Surry House is set to become a cultural, creative and social destination for Sydney’s creatives and professionals. The building, along with being the former Chinese Republic Newspaper offices was a former needle factory repairing sewing machines for Sydney’s textile industry. It embodies iconic grandeur of a bygone era with innovative design in the most sought after city fringe address. The distinguished original architecture, a combination of exposed brick, high raked ceilings and solid timber floors, is paired with an impeccably crafted interior fit-out, shaping an inspiring warehouse workspace for artists and creatives.

Says Sammut: “A 20/20 membership is more than a desk to work at and a place to hang out. It will provide access to a multitude of creative talents from all backgrounds, over time we envisage companies to approach individuals and groups of members for specific services.

“There will be networking events on the rooftop, the hospitality of a wine bar and restaurants downstairs, yoga classes on the rooftop, group fitness, and we’re even looking into a meal plan option for members. We’re reinventing Surry House as the cultural and creative hub of Surry Hill.”

Creatives needing a desk for a day, or six months, a meeting room for that pitch, or a creative networking event, 20/20 People will be open for you in April 2016. Enquire now at http://2020people.com.au/ to secure a space to build your future at this reinvigorated, iconic Surry Hills address.
