Sonar composers take home the APRA Screen Music Awards Feature Film Score of the Year

At last night’s APRA Screen Music Awards, Sonar composers Antony Partos (left) and Matteo Zingales (right) took out the prestigious Feature Film Score of the Year for American Film 99 Homes.

Directed by Ramin Bahrani, 99 Homes featuring Michael Shannon and Andrew Garfield, looks at the devastating American housing crisis. Zingales and Partos created an atmospheric, pulsing electronic score for the highly acclaimed film.

Says Partos: “It was a real privilege to be part of such an important film. Ramin is a man of great intelligence and insight. His films are always highly thought provoking. Ramin had a very strong vision for the film — he took a leap of faith working remotely with us and we were glad to be able to realise that in the score.”

Partos took a double win last night also scoring Best Soundtrack of the Year for Sherpa, the incredible documentary about Everest, directed by Jen Peedom.

He has now won 11 Screen Music Awards in a career that has included composing for TV programs such as Rake, Mabo, Redfern Now, The Slap, Love Child and Deep Water and films including Animal Kingdom, The Homesong Stories, The Rover and Tanna.

Says Sophie Haydon, producer, Sonar: “It’s so exciting that Ant and Matteo are getting the opportunity to showcase their talents on international projects. We are thrilled and incredibly proud to see their hours of love and labour being recognised.”

With Zingales currently working on the new feature ‘Australia Day’ directed by Kriv Sanders, featuring Bryan Brown, and Partos finishing the highly anticipate feature ‘Jasper Jones’, starring Toni Collete and Hugo Weaving, there’s no doubt Sonar will continue to shine in the spotlight.
