Australia wins two Best of Show nominations + four 1st Place Awards at 2016 Mobius Awards

viral experiment.jpgAustralian agencies have received six awards and two Best of Show nominations in the 2016 Mobius Awards international advertising competition. The wins included four First Place awards.

The Woolshed Company, Melbourne, leads the Australian pack with two First Place Mobius Statuettes for “The Viral Experiment” in Digital: Online-Branding and in Branded Content: Branding. It was also nominated for Best of Show. Woolshed was both entrant and advertiser. The project was envisioned as a social experiment to explore the creation and distribution of new media and consisted of fake videos that received more than 200 million views worldwide. Eight videos were loaded on YouTube with such themes as an outback tornado, a shark attack in Manly, Sydney, and a bear chasing a snowboarder. The project was by directors Richard Hughes and Caspar Mazzotti with producer Dave Christison.

Instabilia.jpgAlso winning a Mobius Golden Statuette and a Best of Show nomination was VML Australia, Sydney, for “Instabilia” in Digital: Online-Sports & Recreation, produced for the National Rugby League, Australia. ECD/MD was Aden Hepburn. Matt Geersen was creative director; Jarrad Collings and Matt Sterne, art directors; John Reyes and Jamie Muscat, senior designers; Sean Vrabel, copywriter, and Matt Brown, strategist. Editor was Sam Bryant, and Natasha Howard was producer. VML won a Second Place Certificate for Outstanding Creativity for “McDonald’s Loaded Fries” in Food, Beverages-Services, produced for McDonald’s Australia.

Host airline wager pr (1).jpgA third Australian agency winning a First Place Mobius Award was Host Sydney for “#Airline Wager,” in Public/Media Relations: Tourism, Leisure & Travel. The entry was produced for Air New Zealand and Qantas with Justine Murphy as brand manager, Sam Saunders as social media manager and Bob Mackintosh as executive creative director. Jack Delmonte was art director with Hadleigh Sinclair as copywriter and Dennelle Exton as group account director.

Winning a Second Place Certificate for Outstanding Creativity was Alt.vfx, Brisbane, in Commercials/TVC for “Pepsi Strong-Momotaro Episode 4.” The entry was produced for Suntory Beverage & Food Limited, Tokyo, with Alt.vfx as the visual FX company. Tugboar, Yomiko Advertising Inc., Tokyo, was the agency on the project with Tohokushinsha Film Corp. doing production.

This was the 46th annual competition. Entrants from 22 countries were selected for 69 awards, including 29 First Place Mobius Award Golden Statuettes, 35 Second Place Certificates for Outstanding Creativity, and five Student Awards.
