IMG_0895.jpgTwo directors from Australia were shortlisted in D&AD’s Next Director Award for 2017 including AIRBAG director Angie Bird (pictured left with AIRBAG managing partner Adrian Bosich) and FINCH director Yianni Warnock. The D&AD Next Director winner, which was announced earlier was Henry Busby.

Recognising the freshest and most talented directors from around the world, Bird and Warnock were among the select few to earn the honour this year.

The latest in a string of global recognition, Bird’s work has also been featured on Vimeo Staff Picks, and saw her pick up a coveted Cannes Young Director award in 2016.

Her recent campaign for the Myer ‘Give Registry’ via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and Flare, showed how important seemingly mundane everyday items can be to someone who has nothing. Using real-life interviews with survivors of domestic violence, the result is a powerfully emotive series of films.

Since joining AIRBAG, she’s shown her ability to capture emotion of every sort, with her insightful and lighthearted take on health insurance for Health Partners via SDWM.

Says Adrian Bosich, managing partner, AIRBAG: “Angie’s work is infused with humanity. The emotion is embedded in every frame. Being shortlisted for the D&AD Next Director awards is a career defining moment, and I can’t wait to see the opportunities it opens up for her to knock out of the park.”

Bird currently splits her time between Toronto and Melbourne.
