Screen Shot 2017-04-04 at 4.46.52 pm.jpgSydney-based art director, designer and illustrator, Beck Feiner, is celebrating the success of her latest invention, the Aussie Legends Alphabet.

While on maternity leave with her second child, motivated by her desire to turn her passion for illustration into a career, she started doing an illustration a day and sharing it on her Instagram account… @beckfeiner_illustrations.

The idea for the Aussie Legends Alphabet was inspired when she went looking for an interesting alphabet for her four-year old’s wall, but couldn’t find one.

julia_gillard (1).jpgAlphabet 11 (1).jpgSays Feiner: “I just felt like A is for apple, and B is for banana was a bit boring and predictable.”

In the Aussie Legends Alphabet, A is for Indigenous AFL footballer Adam Goodes, B is for former prime minister Bob Hawke, L is for SBS newsreader Lee Lin Chin, P is for Melbourne Cup-winning racehorse Phar Lap, and T is for scientist and conservationist Professor Tim Flannery.

For Feiner, capturing Australia’s multicultural diversity was paramount:

And if you ask me, Australia’s multiculturalism is one of the best things about this amazing country.”

The poster has been very well received. Lee Lin Chin is using Feiner’s illustration of her as her Twitter icon. The Victor Chang Institute is honoured to be included, and Kath and Kim have even reached out. The National Library of Australia have purchased copies of the poster as have dozens of schools around the country.

Feiner has spoken on several radio programs about her unique alphabet and was even invited on Channel 7’s Morning Show.

The poster is available at beckfeinercreations.com and a portion of every sale is given to the Fred Hollows Foundation.
