The campaign will aim to tell the story of Sailor Jerry’s character through a curated collection of his original artwork in a travelling exhibition.

Says Andrew Skehan, marketing manager, William Grant & Sons, Australia: “The Jerry Can Ride in ’16 was epic. I just didn’t think we could beat it, but the plans for Origins of Original embodies our Sailor Jerry ethos by bringing to life the man and namesake of our brand Norm ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins. By travelling his priceless artwork around the country and supporting local tattooists, artists and musicians as Sailor Jerry did himself in the day, we will continue to share his amazing story which is the backbone to the brand. It’s going to be big and our brand is so proud of the work to date.”

With Kontented once again documenting the journey, the campaign will also demonstrate how tattoo culture has evolved by telling the stories of contemporary local tattoo artists and the people who share similar values and passions to that of Norman Collins. By delivering a travelling art, music and tattoo show to 6 Australian cities and towns, the documentary will aim to showcase that this same character manifests in other passion areas like music and other art forms.

Says Miguel Garcia, head of strategy and client services, Kontented: “Over the course of the last 8 months we’ve been pulling together one of the most prolific art collections and getting ready to travel it alongside 6 of Australia’s most high profile artists in the tattoo industry. The original Kontented production has been developed in conjunction with our massive social strategy which aims to connect content with our target demo in a seamless and genuine way. Sailor Jerry is a great brand and we can’t wait to tell its story again this year.”

On show will be a selection of the original artwork created by Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins as well as a featured local tattoo artist at each of the 6 stops (Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Woolongong, Melbourne, Bendigo). The travelling art show will be supported by local music acts and accompanied by curator CCAHA Paper Conservator and art historian, Samantha Sheesley.
