Screen Shot 2017-09-20 at 12.55.49 pm.jpgAs the debate over marriage equality reaches fever pitch, Sydney-based creative partnership, Brand+Story, has joined with Junkee Media to launch a new campaign designed to sway fence-sitting ‘no’ voters.

Created by Josh Whiteman and Paul Chappell, the beautifully simple execution titled ‘For Better’ features gay couples in long-term relationships talking about their hopes for the right to marry.

Screen Shot 2017-09-20 at 12.56.53 pm.jpgWhiteman describes the campaign as “a small contribution to the incredible work Australian Marriage Equality and other organisations have done on this important issue.

“Our approach was to engage borderline no voters with stories of older couples who have been together in long-term, committed Screen Shot 2017-09-20 at 12.57.49 pm.jpgrelationships. Many people in the queer community hold ‘traditional’ views on marriage, believing it’s meant to celebrate long term commitment, protect children and provide stability. These views disarm many of the ‘no’ arguments.

“So, what initially appears as a message from the ‘no’ side soon reveals itself to be a moving exploration of these couples’ desire to marry and enjoy all that comes along with that. We dearly hope the film shows that voting ‘yes’ will lead to a better world for everyone.”

Says Chappell: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support of the crew and post partners who donated their time and services to make this happen. When I think about Neville at 97 years old, desperate to marry his partner of almost 40 years, we really need to get this done.”

A 60 second spot will be distributed online by Junkee Media, driving to a 6 minute film.

Brand+Story has also delivered a 30 second TVC version for broadcast.
