QLD Government launches ‘Respect’ slam poem via Khemistry for QLD’s Disability Action week

Launched in line with Queensland’s Disability Action week, the slam poem ‘Respect’ addresses the daily frustrations people with speech impairments experience.

‘Respect’ is the second content video created by Khemistry for the Department of Communities’ Everybody has a role to play campaign, which aims to give people with disability equal opportunities.

Says Lindsay Thompson, creative director, Khemistry: “We asked the Department’s social communities to share their stories of living with disability with us. People told us that they get patted on the head and congratulated simply for getting up in the morning, which is absolutely ridiculous.”

Following on from the success of the campaign’s first video, ‘The No Pile’, Khemistry again partnered with indelabilityarts to develop the work.

Says Thompson: “It just made sense to continue working with indelabilityarts. They are a terrific group, and are hugely talented and professional.

“The first content video was a light-hearted take on the frustrations people with disability experience when searching for employment. With this second piece, we really wanted to get people to stop and think about how they behave – or as Michel says in the video – rethink, rewire and reset.”
