Almandin most searched race horse ahead of today’s 2017 Melbourne Cup says Atomic 212°
The race that stops the nation is just a few hours away, and everyone wants to know: Who will win the Melbourne Cup? Atomic 212° has crunched the numbers and determined the horses that are getting the most searches in the buildup to today’s big race.
Atomic 212° has used all of its powers of statistical analysis to get a read on which horses are being searched for the most (in other words, the agency has used the very helpful Google suite of tools, namely Google Keyword Planner).
In the lead-up to the Melbourne Cup, the horse which has been generating the highest search volume has been Almandin, last year’s winner of the famous 3,200-metre Flemington event.
The runner up is Hartnell, followed by Humidor, Wicklow Brave and Bondi Beach. Next up are Johannes Vermeer, Gallante, Red Cardinal, Big Duke and Single Gaze.
Says Jason Dooris, CEO, Atomic 212°: “Everyone wants to pick a winner on the biggest race day of the year. Well, we don’t have a crystal ball, but at least we already know who won the search race. Perhaps unsurprisingly, last year’s winner Almandin has been searched for the most in the lead up to the Cup. Will this champion horse be able to claim victory two years in a row?”

I really respect Atomic 212 but this is truly pointless.
They’ve used a tool that’s free for anyone (keyword planner) that provides absolutely no real insight into the race.
Perhaps if they’d created their own algorithm or tracked social media mentions (e.g. the ‘Warmest 100’), or even live streamed a funny random prediction (e.g. Paul the Octopus) this press release would have been a bit more interesting.
