McCann Melbourne takes out Agency of the Year and Grand Effie at 2018 APAC Effie Awards

McCann Melbourne was crowned Agency of the Year at the 2018 APAC Effie Awards, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore on the weekend.

The agency’s “Made Possible By Melbourne” campaign for University of Melbourne was awarded two Gold awards and three Silver awards plus the highly coveted Grand Effie while University of Melbourne took out Brand of the Year and Marketer of the Year.

Colenso BBDO Auckland was runner-up for Agency of the Year while McCann Philippines took out third spot.

McCann Melbourne and McCann Philippines’ awards contributed significantly to McCann Worldgroup being awarded Network of the Year, followed by Ogilvy & Mather and BBDO Worldwide. These Special Awards were given out based on the total calculation of points accumulated for each gold, silver, bronze and finalists. 

Australia retained its #1 position with 31 awards, followed by India with 20 and China with 9.

Ogilvy Sydney – one Gold for Nestle ‘Any number of sore throats’ and one Bronze for IBM ‘Selling AI to the average Joe’

Clemenger BBDO Sydney – one Gold for Airbnb ‘Until we belong’

McCann Sydney – three Silver and one Bronze for MasterCard ‘Tap for your town’

BMF Sydney – one Silver for Aldi ‘The Perfect Aussie Christmas’ and one Bronze for Football Federation of Australia ‘You gotta have a team’

J Walter Thompson Sydney – one Silver for Berocca ‘From big nights to big day’

Edelman Australia – two Bronze for HP Australia ‘Spectorium’

BWM Dentsu – one Bronze for Bank of Queensland ‘It takes one to know one’ and one Bronze for BabyLove ‘Championing the smallest fighters’

WhiteGREY – one Bronze for David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust ‘Hello in Elephant’

Special Group Sydney – one Bronze for Lion ‘Three years of pure potential’

303 MullenLowe – one Bronze for Road Safety Commission ‘Time with mum’

This year’s awards gala was attended by some 190 marketing professionals from across the region. The jury awarded a total of 93 awards – 22 Golds, 33 Silvers and 38 Bronzes.

All campaigns that clinched metals and finalists will be accorded points towards the 2018 Effie Effectiveness Index, which ranks the most effective companies and brands globally.
