Brisbane AWARD School graduates Anais Read and Matt Newman hold their own at Young Glory

anaisandmatt-bw.jpgGlobal creative competition based on consistency, Young Glory is the ultimate test for young creatives wanting to prove themselves.

Last season, Emma Ziesemer and Tom Kimmorley took out the title. And putting Brisbane on the map again just a year later is new creative duo, Anais Read (right) and Matt Newman (left).

Read and Newman have spent the last eight months coming up with ideas for various briefs, which are set and judged by top advertising creatives.

Both Read and Newman are products of AWARD School, graduating in 2017 and 2016 respectively.

DreamHoliday-cover.jpgThe duo recently snagged a Gold and two Finalists for their ideas. Judged by Charlie Gschwend of Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo, teams had to encourage Japanese people to take their allotted vacations and book a holiday on Expedia.

Read and Newman were awarded the only Gold of the round, thanks to their idea; ‘Dream Holiday‘.

Similar to Ziesemer and Kimmorley, Read and Newman are also from independent agencies. Read hails from Redsuit Advertising and Newman from BCM Partnership. Perhaps the close-knit environment and mentorship you can get in a small agency contributes to creativity.

Now twelve months on from their win, Ziesemer is freelancing as a copywriter in Portland, Oregon, while Kimmorley is working as an art director at PublicisQ. It’s clear Brisbane is quietly churning out quality.

Read and Newman currently sit at third on the leaderboard, and with one round of scoring to come. The pair sit behind Jane Le and Ash Myburgh from Ogilvy Sydney who are ranked #1 in the leaderboard and David Jones-Hawke and Serge Ozegovic from Banjo Advertising who are ranked #2. Other Aussies on the leaderboard include Emily Field from BMF at #4 and Koshila Perera and Samual Moore from WiTH Collective at #10.
