Monster debut for Playground’s David Barker
Following on from its successful world premiere in London last month, David Barker’s debut noir-inspired thriller, Pimped, will premiere in Australia at Monster Fest on November 24 at Melbourne’s Cinema Nova, alongside other notable attraction, Lars Von Trier’s, The House That Jack Built.
Produced by Playground and Annie Kinnane, the film stars Ella Scott Lynch (Love Child, Underbelly, The Code) and Benedict Samuel (Walking Dead, Gotham, The Beautiful Lie), and centres around a psychological and viscous battle between a woman caught in a sick and twisted sexual game and the men that perpetrate the heinous crime.
Said Anton Bitel in Sci-FiNow: “Barker’s Sydney-set feature is an assured game of role reversal, as complex characters
play switcheroo with themselves and each other in their high-stakes walk on the wild side.”
The film shot in October last year, with long time collaborator, Josh Flavell behind the camera, Pimped a
stylish thriller that has garnered memorable performances. Renown UK critic Kim Newman went so far as to tag it, “A dark, acid little psycho-fable.”
To celebrate the premiere, Playground have two complimentary tickets
to the screening at Cinema Nova in Melbourne Nov 24 @ 8pm. First person to shoot through an email to us@playgroundfilms.com.au, listing their favourite genre film of all time, will receive a right bloody reward.
For those that can’t make the festival, Playground have partnered with Bonsai Films and FilmInk Presents, to release the film into cinemas nationally, in February 2019.
