Says Julian Schreiber and Tom Martin of Special Group who were joint chairman of judges: “Whilst the technology involved is getting more and more common in advertising, the entire judging panel agreed this was the best use of VR that they had seen thus far.”

BCM were awarded a total of three gold, three silver, three bronze and another 14 finalists, and Khemistry had a great year with the largest number of overall medals and finalists – one gold, six silver, 11 Bronze and eight finalists.  Khemistry’s work for the Department of Community Services, Child Safety and Disability Services “Everybody has a role to play” campaign was rewarded with medals in a number of categories including Websites, Online Video, Copywriting, Art Direction, Direction as well as Original Compositions/Jingles.

Alt took home an incredible seven trophies at BADC. In the VFX category, the company won Gold for its creature work on Tile – Lost Panda, and Gold for its extensive work on Westpac – Help When It Matters. They also won Gold in Animation for last year’s standout Christmas spot for David Jones. Tile – Lost Panda won an additional Silver for Animation, while Toyota – Drive Happy also took home a gong for Animation (Bronze). Alt’s R+D team also won two Bronze trophies, one for Digital Innovation for their Falken Tyres Augmented Reality app, and one for their work on the Volkswagen 360 VR project that was a companion piece to last year’s launch TVC for the new VW Golf.

“I’m proud that in this ever changing landscape a dedication to quality and craftsmanship will always reaps rewards, and well…awards. These trophies are all thanks to the amazing team we have built at Alt, and their collective drive to keep doing great work. Hats off to all of the team here in Brisbane and across the world!”

Screen Shot 2018-10-29 at 7.54.17 am.jpgWith a total of 38 awards and finalists, the Queensland Government was awarded Client of the Year for encouraging and inspiring creativity.

Says Schreiber: “When you look at the spread of work and what won in all the categories, Client of the Year starts to become very apparent. It was impressive how this client had a number of very interesting projects of very different scales and tones – allowing for everything from serious high-tech solutions to musicals.”

Says Hartley: “From front of house as receptionist nearly 24 years ago, to now fronting a 140-strong, national post production house as group general manager – she’s done it all, with a megawatt smile. She has nurtured and provided a platform for so many of this city’s finest to grow their careers and craft their skills, and has been a mentor, guide and ally across agency, production and post production, directors, legendary post editors, sound designers and VFX stars.”

Tristan at BADC (2) .jpgTaxi director Tristan Houghton (left) was recognised for his recent work winning 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze. This combination of accolades has made Houghton the stand-out director from the awards – winning more than any other.

As an emerging leader in the film production industry, Houghton’s work captures beauty and delivers powerful messages to his audiences.

If you’ve seen Houghton’s work before you would be familiar with his creatively rich and technically proficient style. Work that not only stands out, it intrigues and moves people.

On his campaign for Mack Trucks alone, Houghton was awarded Gold in Direction – Over 60 Seconds, and Gold in Cinematography – Over 60 seconds. This was no small feat given the calibre of entries from this year’s event. The number of nominations to the 2018 BADC Awards far outweighed any previous year, making for some stiff competition.

The awards do not come as a surprise to executive producer and managing director of The Taxi Group, Andrew Wareham: “Tristan has an ability to create engaging stories with his stunning visuals. We have always known that his work is stand-alone, however, this recent lot of awards just goes to show how quickly Tristan is establishing himself as an industry leader. With interest in his work growing globally, he is defiantly one to watch.”
