Poke The Bear animation works with James Wan for new Atomic Monster stop motion ident

ShowreelImages_AtomicMonster_Norm.jpgIf you’ve seen Australian director/producer James Wan’s new box office hit film “The Nun” at the cinema recently, you’ve also seen the latest stop motion work from animation studio Poke The Bear. Wan was after a reenvisioning of his Atomic Monster production company indent, and, as Poke The Bear has recently teamed up with Australian stop motion veteran Norman Yeend, it was the perfect project for the new partnership.

Wan already had a CG version of his company ident, but felt stop motion was the perfect way to achieve the 50’s monster movie look he was after.

Says Guy Jamieson, owner of Poke The Bear Animation: “Norm has been remarkably involved with almost every stop motion project based in Sydney for the last 30 years and there could easily be a formal retrospective based on his work.”

He and Norman have worked together on a number of successful projects in the past, including a Cannes Lion winning project for Air BNB and a stop motion recipe project for Ferrero Nutella.

So it’s no surprise that, having spotted a gap in the Sydney market for a full service stop motion animation studio, they jumped at the opportunity. And things bode well for the pair, with Norman’s skills as a stop motion animator/director, character and set builder, and Jamieson’s experience producing and directing 2D and 3D animation, complementing each other so well.

Says Jamieson: “I have a passion for all styles of animation, but great stop motion just demands respect. It’s a rare art these days and I’m excited to be working with Norm in that media. This Atomic Monster project was the perfect project to showcase our partnership and with more projects currently in production, we’re looking forward to many more.”
