Collider director Luci Schroder wins Best Drama for ‘Slapper’ film at the 2018 Vimeo Awards

Considered The Oscars of the internet, the awards took place on the 17th of January in New York and saw Schroder take out the top award.

Vimeo is one of the worlds largest video sharing platforms with over 700 million monthly views. It’s staff picks program has helped shine a light on some of the worlds best film making talent, with 12,000 films selected over the last decade watched over 2 billion times.

From last years 1200 staff picks only 7 films receive the highest honours. ‘Slapper’ took out its category for best drama and received high commendation by the judges.

Says Reinaldo Marcus Green, jury member: “In just a few short minutes, Luci Schroder takes her audiences on a truly visceral journey with this young girl, in a world so foreign, yet so familiar. It’s incredibly raw, edgy, and poignant.”

The film was screened to a packed house at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

After the screening the next presenter announced to the audience that he needed to take a minute after watching the film.

‘Slapper’ has screened at a slew of the worlds best festivals including Sundance, MIFF, SFF and received many awards including best short film at SFF and best emerging film maker at MIFF. Aside from the films accolades, it also gained Schroder much attention at home and overseas. After its release she signed with Art + Commerce in the US and Collider in Australia/Asia for commercial representation. She has also since begun work on her debut feature being produced by Australian power house producer Bruna Papandrea.
