NMZ7WDlV.jpgIconic Australian retailer Sportsgirl is again pushing the boundaries of how fashion brands portray young women with the evolution of its ‘Be That Girl’ movement and campaign via Portas, Melbourne.

First introduced in August 2018, Be That Girl provides a voice and platform to young women who are shining examples of what can be achieved when you believe in yourself. From women who have succeeded by overcoming adversity to those reinventing an industry or challenging the status quo, Sportsgirl encourages the next generation to choose their own path, whatever that may be.

Id9jLMD2.jpgThis year, six new faces will join the Be That Girl movement including scientist and NSW Young Australian of the Year Macinley Butson, diversity advocate Mahalia Handley, author of ‘Egg Shell Skull’ Bri Lee and actress and mental health advocate Mavournee Hazel, second-generation Australian and2NVgyho9.jpg passionate advocate for women’s education Cindy Wang and creator of TV series ‘The Housemate and advocacy for diversity in television Gemma Bird Matheson.

Each girl will feature in a series of unscripted and honest mini films that sees them answer questions, impart wisdom and lesson learnt along the way. Each film will focus on a theme that relates to love, life and self and shows girls as they are, in their own way, interviewed by Ingrid Kesa.

Says Matheson “We need to back ourselves and our ideas even when it feels like there’s little to no support. IaZjGcUcc.jpg knew it was important to promote inclusivity and diversity in TV, so I created my own TV show, regardless of the outcome. For it to be picked up by The ABC was a dream come true and testament to my belief that there is an audience and need for it. Sometimes we just need to show others the way.”

Says Colleen Callander, CEO, Sportsgirl: “The response to Be That Girl has been overwhelmingly positive. We set out to empower the next generation of young Australian women to have confidence in their own identity and to share their journey’sGeThwvcC.jpg with us, their highs and lows as well as lessons learnt along the way. It’s been so exciting to receive such wonderful feedback from girls around Australia who are sharing their stories, hopes and dreams and we hope the next chapter of Be That Girl, continues to inspire confidence in women, no matter who you are or what you want to be.”
