Jagdish Ramakrishnan transfers from Ogilvy Singapore to take up the executive creative director role at Ogilvy & Mather Beijing

Ogilvy & Mather Beijing has been ECD-less since Bill Chan left the agency around six months ago and for the past month Ramakrishnan (left), who is deputy regional executive creative director Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, has been based in Beijing overseeing the creative department.

When contacted this morning, Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific's chief creative officer Eugene Cheong, who is currently in Beijing, confirmed Ramakrishnan's permanent move to China.
"Juggi has been babysitting our agency there for the last six weeks and, by all accounts, he seems to love the Chinese capital," said Cheong. "He will move here permanently in the new year. A big office like Beijing needs a big talent like Juggi. He has already learnt 25 Chinese characters and thinks the vegetarian food here is pretty decent."

Ramakrishnan joined Ogilvy in September 2009 after resigning from BBDO where he was ECD for three years. Previously he had a long and very highly-awarded career at Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore.

That's some weird logic. If Backs is going back to Oz, then why not have Mr Juggi take over his role...why send Mr. Juggi all the way to a strange country with a foreign language...one that he has no grasp of. Imagine a China ECD running a huge department in India...no client or creative would respect this person. Good luck doing "no sharksfin please" ads in China.

You're right. There is something odd here. But I'm not sure if Ogilvy Singapore can afford talent like Juggi anymore. They have had a terrible year, and spent several senior salaries worth on award entries to boot.

Poh Chai.... on that Logic why wouldn't Eugene, being faintly Chinese himself taken the bigger piece of the pie and maybe even continued to run regional from Beijing?

Well, if you think about it, Ogilvy desperately need to ramp up their award winning as it has been in the dumpster for a long time. China is a fairly easy place to churn out pro-active work as it is so huge and not everything can be verified fast as in Singapore. But the talent in china is pretty crappy so they need someone who is experienced at this sort of game. Expect a rash of award entries originating from Ogilvy Beijing soon.
