Cannes Media Lions: Lowe & Partners India picks up two Gold Lions for The Kan Khajura Station

Both Lions were for 'The Kan Khajura Station' campaign for Hindustan Unilever and Lowe were the only agency from Asia to reach Gold Lion status.

Kan Khajura Tesan literally translates to 'ear worm radio channel' in English. Kan Khajura Tesan aims to help HUL brands engage with low-income rural consumers in media dark areas. Kan Khajura Tesan is the first fully advertiser funded mobile based entertainment-on-demand initiative in India. The driving force behind this campaign is the fact that a large percentage of the consumer group for HUL brands are in media dark villages and cannot be reached via traditional media like TV, radio & print. In these rural areas access to TV and radio is limited and further constrained by poor availability of electricity.

No Silver Lions were awarded to Asia in Media however there were 6 Bronze Lion winners from the region:

Iris Worldwide Jakarta won their country's first Lions of the Festival with two - both for 'Banana Republic' Charity (pictured left).

Dentsu Tokyo won Bronze for 'Pocari Music Player' for Otkuka Pharmaceutical.

Hakuhodo Tokyo won for 'Rice Code' for Inakadate Village.

Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai won for 'Message Barter' for The Akanksha Foundation, and Ogilvy & Mather Singapore picked up a Bronze Lion for 'Movie Emoji' for Singtel.

The Media Grand Prix was awarded to McCann Worldgroup Peru for Coca-Cola "Happy ID". The jury, led by Matt Seiler, Global CEO, IPG Mediabrands, who viewed 3127 entries in total, went onto shortlist 227 entries and award 13 gold, 24 silver and 54 bronze trophies. The Media Network of the Year, awarded to the media agency network that obtains the highest score for entries in the Media Lions section, was presented to Starcom MediaVest. PHD Worldwide came second and OMD Worldwide third.

I think Campaign Brief should revise the news here. Iris should not be the first agency in Indonesia to win Cannes medal. Several agencies within 1 - 3 years back have won it ... even better than just bronze as far as I can recall.

Hi Ridwan,
The meaning of that sentence is Iris won Indonesia's first Lions of this festival - i.e 2014. It's common knowledge that Hakuhodo won Gold last year (they also won a Silver, as did Lowe). I think Hakuhodo also won a Lion in 2012. Indonesia's first Lions came via JWT and FCB in 2007 or 2008. In between Publicis and probably one or two others have also won Lions. Cheers, Kim
