New Zealand won one Silver Lion and two Bronze Lions at the Outdoor Lions awarded tonight.

Saatchi's Auckland office scored two Bronze Lions while top New Zealand honour went to Colenso BBDO, which won a Silver Lion for Rodney District Council's 'Haunting Girl'.

The Grand Prix was awarded to TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris South Africa for a campaign for The Zimbabwean newspaper, which saw real Zimbabwean money used to make up the 'Trillion Dollar Billboard' as part of a fundraising campaign for The Zimbabwean which had been forced out of the country by the Zimbabwean government.

Also contending for the Grand Prix was US campaign from BBH for the launch of the Oasis album 'Dig Out Your Soul'. To promote the launch buskers performed their versions of the new songs on the streets of New York, with video recordings of the songs then going viral on the internet.

Much of the talk from the jury revolved around the use of technology in outdoor, and the proliferation of non-traditional forms of outdoor.

Jury president Akira Kagami, global executive creative director at Dentsu, said: "We're tried really hard to find out what is the future, and what do we have today, we did not think about the past."

Australia was represented by BWM executive creative director Rob Belgiovane. He said: "Australia did really well in the finalist stage, but once it got down to all the finalists from around the world, you would have to say that some of the Australian work looked too traditional and it sort of got gazumped by some of that new thinking like The Zimbabwean. There were some real highlights for Australia but you could see we were getting slightly outdone in some of the technology areas and probably we had a lower list of entries from day one."
