2degrees wins the Fairfax Media Supreme Award at the 2010 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards

Following months of trawling through entries, rigorous judging, and back-patting of finalists, the New Zealand marketing community was in celebratory mode last night at the 2010 TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards. The Fairfax's Media Supreme Award, which goes to the best overall entry was picked up by mobile phone carrier 2Degrees for its 'Staying 2degrees' campaign by TBWA\Whybin New Zealand.

The campaign was crafted around the premise that every New Zealander is separated by two degrees, in contrast to the popular "six degrees of separation" theory allegedly first floated in 1929 by Hungarian short story writer, Frigyes Karinthy.

NZ Marketing publisher, Vincent Heeringa said, "These awards are reserved for those who execute a great strategy - not just those who make nice ads. But with 2degrees they've achieved both."

In keeping with the science of marketing theme, the crowd of passionate marketing and business leaders enjoyed an evening of entertainment and celebration amid flaming test tubes and dazzling pyrotechnics with awards host, Te Radar, and live band Gourmet Peppers.

"It's brilliant to see such widespread participation throughout the marketing community. As an industry, we should be proud of the work we have been doing. We thank all entrants for their contribution, and congratulate this year's winners for driving innovation and thought leadership for New Zealand businesses" says Sue McCarty, NZMA's Chief Executive.
