AdFest is looking for 2011’s Fabulous Four emerging directors to jump start their careers
The call for entries to AdFest’s Fabulous Four emerging directors and assistant directors competition has gone out. Directors from around the Asia Pacific region have until December 31st to submit their short film scripts.
Entrants must be directors or assistant directors based in the Asia Pacific, and their short film, based on the theme ‘Jump Start’, must be one of the first 7 works directed by each entrant.
‘Jump Start’ is also the theme for AdFest 2011, and it reflects the Festival’s commitment to celebrating the energy, ideas and enthusiasm of Asia’s emerging creative talent. Each 5-minute script can be submitted free of charge, and all scripts will be read by the Film Craft Lotus & New Director Lotus jury panel at AdFest 2011, who will independently vote for 4 of their favorite scripts. The 4 directors whose scripts receive the highest score will be notified by AdFest to produce their short film, which will premiere at AdFest 2011. The directors, affectionately known as the “Fabulous Four,” will also be on stage to discuss their inspiration behind the films at the Fabulous Four session.

It‟s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it‟s all part of our commitment to nurturing talent in the Asia Pacific. Post-GFC, a lot of emerging directors have found it difficult to break into the industry, so Fabulous Four is the perfect opportunity for emerging directors to make themselves known,” says AdFest President Jimmy Lam.
AdFest will provide return economy airfare, ground transportation, accommodation, and full delegate registration for the ‘Fabulous Four’ directors to attend the March Festival.
Call for Script Submissions start now until 31 December, entrants can submit a scenario script (written in English) as a Word Document for a 5-minute short film of their interpretation of ‘Jump Start’. Each Director/Assistant Director can only submit one script.
The Film Craft Lotus & New Director Lotus jury panel members will vote for their favorite 4 scripts, and the Fabulous Four directors will be notified by 26 January 2011, and will have until 25 February 2011 to produce their short films.
The ‘Fabulous Four’ short films will premiere at a special screening at AdFest in Phuket, Thailand on 17-19th March 2011.
