Ant Keogh’s 2011 Cannes Diary – Day One from the Cannes Press jury room

ant-KEOGH-web.jpgAnt Keogh, executive creative director of Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, is representing Australia on the Press jury. Keogh has just arrived for judging and writes exclusively for Campaign Brief. Other Aussie and Kiwi jurors will be contributing exclusively to the CB Blog over the next week, so make sure you check in daily, hourly, every minute…

Arrived after 26 hours on the plane. Wander around the sunny streets for a few hours feeling slightly out of place in my black Melbourne clothes. Then it’s time go to the introductory dinner to meet the other judges.

I get talking to a Creative Director from Belgium who kind of looks like Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters. Seems like a great guy, really funny and kind of humble. Then I get to thinking, I wonder if he just seems like a good guy because he looks like Dave Grohl, but then I think , no, he’s definitely just a good guy AND he looks like Dave Grohl.

After a while an old Aussie friend walks up to us and I’m thinking, oh no I hope my new Belgian friend introduces himself because he has a Belgian, hard-to-remember name and now it’s going to be really obvious I don’t know how to say it. God I’m an idiot. He told me his name before when we first met and there’s no way I can possibly remember how to pronounce it.

Surely everyone should have name badges or something. Maybe if I just wait long enough they’ll tell each other their names. Finally he saves me and introduces himself to my Aussie friend. He says, “Hi I’m Paul.”
