Nancy Hartley’s 2011 Cannes Diary – Day Two from the Cannes Cyber jury room

Other Aussie and Kiwi jurors will be contributing exclusively to the CB Blog over the next  week, so make sure you check in daily, hourly, every minute…

Today I learned many things. 1. “Aaaan” means affection in Japanese  2. I’m starting to hate the words ‘project’ and ‘blogosphere’. And 3, there are a lot of really unnecessary apps out there.

Screen shot 2011-06-18 at 4.14.57 PM.jpgI saw apps to ruin a perfectly good movie, apps to ruin a perfectly good art exhibit, apps to ruin a perfectly good relationship  – even a couple to ruin a perfectly good day.

On the upside, there were some exceptional ones too that connected people and brands beautifully. And one that probably deserves product placement in The Hangover III.

Plus, I’m at Bon Jovi level for the shortlist – half way there, with mostly viral to judge tomorrow. It’s interesting to see the first iAds and iPad ads coming through too and the fine line between relevance and gimmickry.

Ran into Jay Furby at lunch who told me they were judging radio on the rooftop. The bastards.

Last word on case studies I promise, but how’s this one? End with a big graphic that reads ‘100 MILLION’, with the voice over that says: “over 100 million people in the US started exercising last year – and while we can’t take credit for all of them…”

Keeping it short and sweet tonight. There’s a Catalina wine mixer just outside my window complete with Ferraris and a Barry White impersonator.

Aaah, Cannes.
