ikeagreatindoorawards.jpgIKEA, The Great Indoors has been announced as the April / May winner of the Could Be a Caxton competition, established by the Caxton Committee and supported by The Newspaper Works to recognise and showcase great creativity on a bi-monthly basis.

Dave Shirlaw, senior copywriter at DDB Sydney and the judge of the April / May competition, said: “The Great Indoors ad for Ikea was the pick of the bunch. Essentially, it’s a retail ad/promotion for a boring beige couch, but it’s done with a generous amount of wit and charm. The copy is very funny, and the Facebook page that it links to is well executed. A nice integrated idea that works well in print”.

A Highly Commended was also awarded to Volkswagen, Passat.

Dave Shirlaw said: “It’s a well crafted ad with a great line and clean, simple art direction. What more could you ask for?”

The June / July Could Be a Caxton competition is now open for entries.  It’s free to enter and anyone can submit nominations.  The copywriter and art director responsible for the newspaper campaign judged best of the year’s Could Be a Caxton bi-monthly winning ads, will score an all expenses-paid trip to the 2011 Caxton Awards.
