As an unconditional supporter, Steinlager has been through the same highs and lows as the fans for the last 25 years. While New Zealanders had that one magic moment, it’s been a long time between drinks since we’ve tasted glory. This spot from DDB New Zealand tells the story of a man and his can, and the journey they’ve all been through to get to this moment. The return of the iconic white can will be part of DDB’s campaign for Steinlager.

Nostalgia – powerful! As a Kiwi old enough to remember these cans I enjoyed this ad. Really nice thinking. Great strategy too; riding the All Blacks/Word Cup wave without having to pay to be an official sponsor.
DDB have really delivered for their client here. This will sell some product and get the client some serious ROI.

the world cup isn’t until later in the year, and the entire spot is about world cups. what did you expect to happen?
as a kiwi i like it. and that fact i like it despite them reminding me of the five worst days of my life says something.

It would be great if Steinlager recreated those tinnies for the World Cup. Perhaps they are?
The talent isn’t great, but it seldom is in NZ. It’s a nice idea though. Solo wasn’t that great.
As an Aussie rugby fan who doesn’t work at DDB (although I did once), I dig it.

He’s going to drink it to celebrate the AB’s winning the world cup, 3:18. That’s the whole idea behind the ad. Sit up straight, pay attention, go to the back of the class, sit in the naughty chair facing the corner and put the dunce cap on.
What a complete and utter waste of a golden opportunity to do one of the most memorable ads ever for a classic brand.
I’m a fanatic All Black fan and I was truly embarrased by this predictable crap.
Who created this? The client? Suits? Research?

Look at all the great beer ads done for rugby.
The classic All Black Captains one where they peel off their jerseys and reveal the next captain. Brilliant. Original. Memorable.
Did the same creatives do the great Steinlager print ads that appeared in Archive a while back where it showed cool young people in Steinlager green and the line was crisp taste?
Doubt it.
And this the same agency that did the terrific lotto ad with the dog running around the world with the winning ticket in his mouth?
