In collaboration with communications agency NEWROMANTIC for PR execution and Goody Two Shoes for social media execution, the agencies achieved a combined reach of over $73 million in media value.

Says Ben Peacock, co-founder of Republic of Everyone: “We are enormously proud of the Garage Sale Trail. It is everything we love about sustainability in the sense that this initiative not only has a mutual environmental benefit for everyone it is also incredibly fun and exciting. We like to think that sustainability works best when you don’t know that you’re doing it. That’s why we love the Garage Sale Trail.”

garage 4th 8.jpgGarage Sale Trail is a program that encourages people to hold garage sales on the one day across Australia. Closely aligned with the emerging trend of collaborative consumption, it’s a model based on redistributing goods enabled by digital technology and made famous by social innovator and Garage Sale Trail advocate Rachel Botsman.

Co-founder of the Garage Sale Trail Darryl Nichols, who attended the ceremony held at the Natural History Museum in London said: “The creative partnership with Republic Of Everyone has helped propel Garage Sale Trail from a fun little project in Bondi in 2009 to a national project that’s gaining recognition on an international stage. The strategic thinking and creative that they do has helped take this initiative to a whole new realm.”

Supported by 25 Councils nationally, State Government organisations, private sector brands and the bargain loving people of Australia the Garage Sale Trail is a community minded project with roots in sustainability, creativity and fun.

Partnerships with councils nationally headed up by City of Sydney, News Limited, Vodafone, Stockland and LJ Hooker all made it possible. The result was Australia’s biggest Garage Sale. Over 3000 households participated in hosting sales with 80 000 participants all up. People made money, met their neighbours and kept 50 000 kilograms of waste out of landfill in the process. We’re looking forward to evolving it further in 2012,” states Andrew Valder, founding partner of The Garage Sale Trail.

The Garage Sale Trail will be returning in 2012 in with the aim of doubling participation and injecting fun and creativity into sustainable living.
