MADC Ignition mentoring programme launches ten new careers in advertising for graduates

2788.jpgThe MADC’s mentoring programme Ignition concluded last night with the announcement that ten of the fourteen students would receive paid work in Melbourne agencies.

In an unprecedented result, seven students will receive three-month paid internships and another three have scored full time jobs.

The programme, chaired by Grey Melbourne creative director Nigel Dawson, is a 12-week mentoring and educational course for third year advertising students. Some of the industry’s top creative leaders gave up their time to mentor the students in one-on-one sessions each week, while others came to impart their knowledge in the lecture series.

Fifty students applied and had to respond to a brief to gain entry to the course.

The students came from RMIT, Swinburne, Holmesglen and Monash Universities. During the course of the programme, the students received three briefs and presented the best of their work to a panel of judges during the final week.

Unlike other student programmes, the MADC’s Ignition comes with the promise of a paid three-month internship for the top students at the end of the course.

2790.jpgSays Dawson (pictured near right with Michael Mulcahy):  “The calibre of the students’ work was incredibly high and every single one of them deserved their place in the course.

This year, the Melbourne industry has been hugely supportive of Ignition – never before have we had seven internships on offer.”

The students who won internships were: Simon Dall (CHE), Scott Zulaini (Ogilvy), Ryan Purcell (McCann), Darren O’Mahoney (Ogilvy), Erica Stevens (Ogilvy), Jamie Bailey (Grey), AnnaTara Clark-Sneddon (Ogilvy).

An eleventh Ignition graduate is meeting another Melbourne agency next week to discuss the possibility of an internship.
