Churches have always made use of their signage to broadcast simple pro-superstition messages.
But I’ve noticed a worrying new trend – they’re now actually trying to write proper ads. Here are some recent examples I’ve seen around town:

You know what I hate? Littering. And people who don’t give up their seat for pregnant women. Drivers who don’t know how to merge and… What? Oh, sorry, I thought this was the place for nonsensical ranting. You don’t like an ad? Poor baby. I don’t like 99% of them. Who cares?! Seriously, get a life.
Dear “Whatever”, why are you wasting your precious time just to rag on a witty, satirical comment on the Church that is trying (ineffectively) to connect to the Enlightened State?? The methods by which religious organisations accrue members have been widely regarded as insidious and exploitative and I agree. I’m extremely glad that someone has been brave enough to take on this farce in such a funny and engaging way. Get a life while you can have it, because once you’re through there’s nothing after….
Churches are perfectly entitled to advertise. It is called freedom of speech. They have always advertised in some way or another.
Personally, I hope they do more of it. And better. Nothing kills a bad product faster than good advertising. I can think of nothing more apt than religion competing with margarine for your attention. It puts it in its proper place.
